Earlier this summer I photographed a 75th birthday party with an ABBA tribute band as the evening’s entertainment. It was a lively one from start to finish, and a good example of how much a band can shape the photos you end up with.
My coverage started as guests arrived, which is when most of the relaxed, natural photos happen. People are greeting each other, catching up with family they haven’t seen in a while and settling in, and I keep things unobtrusive so nobody feels they’re being posed.
Once the band started, the focus moved to the dance floor. A tribute act gives you costumes, lighting and a crowd who know every word, so there’s no shortage of energy to work with. I photograph both the performers and the guests reacting to them, as those reaction shots are often the ones families like most.
For a milestone birthday the aim is a complete record of the day without it feeling staged. That means the key moments, the people who came and the atmosphere in the room, all delivered in an online gallery that’s easy to share with everyone who was there.
If you’re planning a milestone birthday, anniversary or private party in or around Cambridge, I’d be happy to talk through what you have in mind. Get in touch through the contact page for a quote.
