About me
A Cambridge photographer who keeps things simple.
I grew up around cameras and music, and photography felt like a natural path. 8 years later I've delivered over 1000 galleries across Cambridge and the surrounding region, covering everything from corporate conferences at King's College to birthday parties, team headshots, hotel interiors, and weddings. I'm calm and approachable, and I work the same way on every shoot: read the room, stay present, deliver fast.
Photography has always been part of my life
My family ran camera shops. I grew up surrounded by equipment, experimenting with film, learning how light works before I understood what composition meant. Music was the other outlet, playing in bands and putting on shows gave me an instinct for reading a room and knowing when to be present and when to stay back.
That combination shaped everything about how I shoot. I’m not the photographer who directs every frame. I watch, I wait, and I capture what’s actually happening. The result is images that feel honest, not staged.

What it's like working with me
Every shoot follows the same pattern. You get in touch, I reply within a few hours with availability and a quote. On the day I turn up early, I’m easy to be around, and I stay out of the way unless you need me front and centre. Afterwards, your gallery arrives fast, usually within 48 hours for events and commercial work, within a week for weddings.
No chasing, no surprises, no awkward posing unless you ask for it. Just clean, natural images you’ll actually use.
More than just photography
Photography is one half of what I do. The other half is helping small businesses look better online.
I run Richard Howell Web Design, building conversion-focused websites and local SEO strategies for service businesses across the UK. If your photography is sorted but your website isn’t pulling its weight, I can help with that too. Many of my photography clients end up working with me on their web presence as well, because the same eye for what looks right carries across both.
When I’m not doing either of those, you’ll find me out with my camera anyway, shooting wildlife and landscapes across Cambridgeshire. It keeps my eye sharp. And at home, my Corgi Riley has become the unofficial studio assistant.
