Earlier this month, I had the pleasure of documenting a beautiful new mural taking shape at Ely Museum. Painted by local artist Laura Pearson-Clark (@artintheburrow), the mural forms part of the museum’s summer exhibition A Golden Age of Summer — an immersive celebration of Edwardian leisure and Fenland landscapes. Inspired by the rivers, reeds, and wildlife of the Fens, the artwork transforms one of the museum’s rooms into a peaceful, nature-filled space designed especially for families and younger visitors. Over two visits, I captured the creative process as the mural evolved from blank walls into a vibrant, calming scene — offering a fresh, playful contrast to the museum’s traditional exhibits.
